This Monday was Earth Day, so we celebrated the belated holiday by learning about the structure of our planet. Using colored play dough, students constructed the Earth: inner and outer core, inner (mesosphere, asthenosphere) and outer (lithosphere) mantle, and continental and oceanic crust (lithosphere). Then we looked at the oceans that cover the Earth and the way the lithosphere is divided into tectonic plates.
We added blue play dough for water and green play dough for the continents. Students proudly took their beautiful Earth models home.
